If you've ever had any experience with cats, you'll know they have the uncanny ability to almost always land on their feet. This skill is so famous that the phrase "cats always land on their feet" has become part of everyday language. But is it actually true?

I did some quick research and learned that cats have what's called the righting reflex. It's an automatic response that begins almost as soon as a cat starts falling.

Using the balance organs in their inner ears, cats can quickly determine which way is down. They then twist the front half of their bodies, followed by the back half, until all four paws are pointing toward the ground. This remarkable feat is made possible by their highly flexible spines, lightweight skeletons, and powerful muscles. It's physics in action (Seymour would love studying this!).
